Multipack Two Be Redesigned

This Saturday was the celebration of The Multipack turning two years old. Turn out was less than last year (only six turned up in comparison to last year’s twenty odd) but it was still a great event with the “hardcore” members in attendance, making it quite an intimate affair with much to say about recent goings on.

It was actually my first meeting since joining Yahoo! back in July so there was much interrogation about working with such a huge company, what I’ve been working on (unfortunately my lips are sealed about “The New Product” as it was often referred to) and what it was like to work with such influential characters like Christian Heilmann and Mark Norman Francis (Drew was briefly mentioned but since his move back home to work with the missus, there wasn’t much to say about that).

Pack of Five

After a few beers and a change of scenery to the Hogs Head (mainly so we could keep tabs on England’s progress against Estonia), conversations turned back towards the Multipack and what the future holds.

Last month, some formalities were agreed such as meetings occurring on the second Saturday of the month, therefore not relying on members agreeing on a date the previous month. There were also discussions about the website and how it needs some attention.

Trev did a fantastic job getting the website up and running last year with minimal time and effort, as well as plugging in a forum and blog for us to use. Unfortunately, due to a lack of motivation and commitment, the site seemed to go into decline with hardly any activity occurring in the last year.

It was decided on Saturday that this should be addressed - it is time for a Reboot.

Rather than meeting in a pub next month, on Saturday 10th November 2007 we will be taking over the offices of One Black Bear in the Custard Factory to sort the website out. Plans aren’t set in stone yet but we are keen to make the homepage more of a portal, highlighting the latest content from around the Multipack, such as a Flickr stream, link farm from sources such as del.icio.us and Digg, the latest from the blog and forums - basically any content that is relevant to the group.

Further details will be announced on the Multipack blog and Upcoming event page in the next two weeks but if you’re keen to donate some time to the cause, you’re more than welcome. Just add yourself to the Upcoming Attendance list, bring along your laptop or Mac and some drink and we’ll supply the rest.

We really should all get together and build this ultimate group agregator thingy. Me and Matt Pennell keep sharing bits for Refresh Newcastle and Refresh Cambridge, Natt and Simon have Oxford and Brighton geek nights sites and Dave Stone has a few things kicking around for sussex digital.

Contrats on the birthday as well.

Oh, excellent. As you may or may not know, due to my recent resignation, I will be back in rainy England by then, and so will have no excuses for not attending this event. I’m very keen to rejoin the group and help give it the kick up the backside it rightly deserves! Count me in!
