Pimp My HTML

Earlier this week, a competition was announced on the Multipack blog for all you web designers out there…

Pimp My HTML

The basic concept is to take some plain semantic HTML (in this case, information about the competition) and spruce it up with your own CSS and JavaScript. There are certain rules in place such as your JavaScript file shouldn’t exceed 20KB and only 5 images can be used (but if you’re clever, this shouldn’t cause many problems). We’ve also added some Microformats in to the pot for you to mess around with too.

We have generously been donated three books to give away by Friends of Ed

I’ve read Jeremy’s and Andy’s books and they are both very good reads if you’re interested in developing modern websites with Web Standards. I’ve heard very good things about Chris’ book too so if you haven’t read them yet and are a little skint, why not enter? You’ve got nothing to lose!

As an added incentive, we have managed to get Jeremy Keith as a guest judge for the competition. If you fancy getting your work reviewed by one of the most talked about web developers in the UK, there’s another reason to enter.

We’ve added the feature for you to test your CSS and JS files on the fly too - just add css=http://www.example.com/multipack.css or js=http://www.example.com/multipack.js to the URL of the competition page, eg. http://www.multipack.co.uk/competition/?css=http://www.multipack.co.uk/css/multipack.css &js=http://www.multipackc.co.uk/dom/g_general.js.

You’ve got until midnight on Sunday 8th October 2006 to get your entry in. That will give us a week to review the entries and the winner will be announced shortly after. You can pick your prize up at the Multipack’s First Birthday in Walsall on Saturday 14th October so make sure you’ve got that weekend free too!

So what you waiting for? Get into your favourite web designing tool, start playing around with that HTML and submit your entry.
